In this play, A1 is intentionally fouled by B1. After the ball has become dead, A1 is assessed a technical foul for taunting B1. Please select from the answers below what you think the proper ruling is.

A. Fouls offset and no shots are awarded and the ball is put back in play with the alternating possession arrow.

B. Award A1 two free throws for the intentional foul, award B two free throws for the technical foul, then resume play by giving B the ball at mid-court.

C. Award A1 two free throws for the intentional foul, award B two free throws for the technical foul, then put the ball in play at the point of interruption.

D. Bring both coaches together and ask them what the fair thing to do is.

If you said B you are correct. This is considered a false double foul and each penalty carries its own weight since they are not simultaneous. You will shoot all merited shots in the order in which they occurred. A1 will shoot its two free throws with the lane cleared for the intentional foul by B1. B will then shoot two free throws for the technical, and then B would receive the ball at mid-court.
